What Makes Sewall Unique?

At Sewall, we are all in this together. Children with special needs. Children following typical development. Parents and families. Our highly qualified early childhood experts. The community at large.
And together, we make a difference.

Sewall’s commitment to inclusion means that children with special needs learn side-by-side with typically developing peers, and children from all cultures and socio-economic backgrounds grow and play together. Through this immersion with others whose abilities and experiences differ, children naturally build empathy for others, leading to a lifetime of understanding and acceptance.

Inclusion means that children receive the support they need within natural settings, rather than being pulled out and isolated from their peers. Interventions are embedded within classroom routines and natural activities, and assistive technologies and other accommodations encourage full participation in all activities for all children.

Sewall’s transdisciplinary teams include physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and early childhood special educators who specialize in children’s cognitive and social-emotional development. All team members share responsibilities in curriculum planning and implementation – but each is just another “teacher” to the kids enrolled in Sewall’s early childhood education programs.

Sewall is family-centered, so parents and care providers are partners who fully participate in their child’s education and development. Because of our inclusive environment, siblings can learn and thrive together.
